Una investigaci\u00f3n de la Universidad de Oxford encontr\u00f3 una asociaci\u00f3n entre la temperatura de las bebidas y un mayor riesgo de desarrollar <strong>carcinoma de c\u00e9lulas escamosas del es\u00f3fago<\/strong>, sin se\u00f1alar al caf\u00e9 o al t\u00e9 como responsables directos. El estudio sugiere que el factor de mayor importancia ser\u00eda la exposici\u00f3n frecuente al calor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La investigaci\u00f3n, titulada <em>Hot Drinks and Oesophageal Cancer: Prospective Analyses in Around 1 Million UK Adults<\/em>, fue publicada el <strong>8 de septiembre de 2026 en la revista International Journal of Cancer<\/strong> y analiz\u00f3 informaci\u00f3n de 977.282 adultos incluidos en los estudios UK Biobank y Million Women Study. Durante los periodos de seguimiento, que promediaron 14,2 a\u00f1os y 11,1 a\u00f1os, respectivamente, se registraron 2.348 casos de c\u00e1ncer de es\u00f3fago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El hallazgo que m\u00e1s llam\u00f3 la atenci\u00f3n apareci\u00f3 entre quienes afirmaron consumir sus bebidas a una temperatura \u201cmuy caliente\u201d. Este grupo present\u00f3 un riesgo aproximadamente <strong>tres veces mayor de carcinoma de c\u00e9lulas escamosas del es\u00f3fago<\/strong> frente a quienes prefer\u00edan tomarlas \u201ctibias\u201d, con un riesgo relativo calculado de 3,17. Adem\u00e1s, las personas que consum\u00edan seis o m\u00e1s bebidas calientes al d\u00eda registraron un riesgo 71 % mayor de este tipo de c\u00e1ncer, despu\u00e9s de tener en cuenta la temperatura. No se encontr\u00f3 una asociaci\u00f3n similar con el adenocarcinoma de es\u00f3fago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los investigadores plantean que el consumo repetido de l\u00edquidos a temperaturas elevadas podr\u00eda provocar lesiones t\u00e9rmicas e inflamaci\u00f3n en el revestimiento del es\u00f3fago, favoreciendo con el tiempo procesos relacionados con el desarrollo del c\u00e1ncer. Sin embargo, el estudio tiene una limitaci\u00f3n: la temperatura de las bebidas no fue medida directamente con un term\u00f3metro, sino que fue reportada por los propios participantes. Por ello, <strong>no establece una temperatura exacta a partir de la cual comienza el riesgo<\/strong>. En 2016, la Agencia Internacional para la Investigaci\u00f3n sobre el C\u00e1ncer (IARC) ya hab\u00eda clasificado el consumo de bebidas a temperaturas superiores a 65 \u00b0C como \u201cprobablemente carcinog\u00e9nico para los humanos\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los resultados no significan que tomar ocasionalmente una taza de caf\u00e9 o t\u00e9 caliente vaya a causar c\u00e1ncer. Se trata de un estudio observacional que identifica una asociaci\u00f3n y no demuestra por s\u00ed solo una relaci\u00f3n de causa y efecto. Como precauci\u00f3n, los especialistas recomiendan <strong>dejar enfriar las bebidas antes de consumirlas y evitar aquellas que quemen la boca o produzcan sensaci\u00f3n de ardor<\/strong>, especialmente cuando se toman varias veces al d\u00eda.
