El acuerdo involucra al Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, la Imprenta Nacional de Colombia y la entidad portuguesa, con el objetivo de transferir conocimiento y fortalecer la capacidad del Estado en estos procesos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El presidente Gustavo Petro destac\u00f3 que el convenio busca terminar el monopolio que, seg\u00fan \u00e9l, manten\u00eda la empresa Thomas Greg &amp; Sons, actual proveedora del servicio. \u201cSe acab\u00f3 ese monopolio. Ni m\u00e1quinas ten\u00edamos en la Imprenta\u201d, se\u00f1al\u00f3, al tiempo que insisti\u00f3 en que el Estado debe recuperar soberan\u00eda sobre los datos personales y manejar directamente la producci\u00f3n de documentos oficiales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La firma del acuerdo ocurre en medio de la pol\u00e9mica por la adjudicaci\u00f3n del contrato de pasaportes que enfrent\u00f3 al Gobierno con Thomas Greg &amp; Sons. Petro aclar\u00f3 que su decisi\u00f3n no es \u201cun capricho\u201d, sino una estrategia para garantizar mayor autonom\u00eda y transparencia en el manejo de la informaci\u00f3n de los colombianos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seg\u00fan revel\u00f3 Caracol Radio, el nuevo sistema comenzar\u00eda a operar el 1 de abril de 2026, cuando la Imprenta Nacional de Colombia, con apoyo t\u00e9cnico de Portugal, asumir\u00e1 por completo la expedici\u00f3n de pasaportes. Por ahora, no se han entregado detalles sobre el funcionamiento del modelo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para garantizar la continuidad del servicio, fuentes cercanas indicaron que el Gobierno firmar\u00e1 una urgencia manifiesta con Thomas Greg &amp; Sons entre el 1 de septiembre de 2025 y marzo de 2026.
