La Fiscal\u00eda General de la Naci\u00f3n, a trav\u00e9s del Grupo Especial para la Lucha contra el Maltrato Animal (GELMA) en articulaci\u00f3n con la Direcci\u00f3n de Carabineros de la Polic\u00eda Nacional obtuvo informaci\u00f3n que daba cuenta de la realizaci\u00f3n de una autodenominada convenci\u00f3n internacional de pelea de perros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los investigadores y la policia llegaron hasta la vereda Aurora Alta de La Calera (Cundinamarca), justo en el momento en el que se realizaban los enfrentamientos en un cuadril\u00e1tero de madera entre caninos de Colombia y otros tra\u00eddos de Rep\u00fablica Dominicana, Ecuador y Venezuela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En el sitio fueron capturados en situaci\u00f3n de flagrancia nueve ciudadanos ecuatorianos, venezolanos y dominicanos; y cuatro colombianos, entre ellos un veterinario y el organizador del evento il\u00edcito, quien ser\u00eda el encargado de convocar espectadores por grupos cerrados y redes sociales con el prop\u00f3sito, al parecer, de que se realizaran apuestas y obtener ganancias ilegales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Durante el procedimiento fueron recuperados 12 perros que se encontraban en precarias condiciones de salud, cuatro de ellos ser\u00edan utilizados como carnadas para iniciar las peleas. Adicionalmente, se hallaron dos perros muertos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por estos hechos, la Fiscal\u00eda imput\u00f3 a los 13 detenidos los delitos de muerte animal y lesiones que menoscaben gravemente la salud o integridad f\u00edsica del animal, ambas conductas agravadas. Los cargos fueron aceptados. De igual manera se solicit\u00f3, a dos de los procesados, el organizador y el veterinario, identificados como Juan Esteban Le\u00f3n Ram\u00edrez y Carlos Cifuentes Hern\u00e1ndez, respectivamente, medida de aseguramiento en centro carcelario.
